Grief. It’s a Monster.

March 8, 2010 – 10:40 am
It comes in stages.

It comes in stages.

Totally out of control.  Cry, yell, scream, feel the loss, for as long as you need.  No one ever has the right to say the words, ‘enough time has gone by.’  There’s never enough time to heal, for a loss like this.

To lose a child, whether you as the parent are 25, 40, 85…making your child a toddler, a teen or an adult… it’s just not meant to come in that order.  We should always go first.  Not them.

How to keep your faith, through times like this…

How to look at your other children and not feel a drop of resentment, and at the same time, relief!

How to just put one foot in front of the other…day, by day, by day…

I lost twins, while they were still inside of me at 7 months.  They hadn’t even entered the world, and I still grieved.  People looked at me a year after, like there was something wrong with me, for holding on to that grief.

I will say, I can not imagine the pain of losing a child that you’ve known for years. Someone you’ve nurtured, invented, molded and has become their own person in spite of it all!

People don’t know what to say.  Be forgiving of their ignorance, if ever you should find yourself in this horrific situation.  Words like, “it was God’s way,” or “it was meant to be,” or “you have your other children,” and on and on…

My advice to you my dear, dear friends, that have just suffered this untimely loss, is to close one ear, and leave the other ear open to God.  I don’t know why.

The truth is, when we ask ourselves, “Why would God have done this to us? Taken our child!”

Well… he may understand.

Isn’t it possible, that He may have lost a child too?

5 Kids Tell a Story

Don't Drink and Drive!

Don't Drink and Drive!

I’m the mother of 5 teenagers.  If anyone has the right to be afraid, … it’s me.  I’m not just afraid of what my OWN kids, may do… like you, I’m afraid of what the OTHER people might do. I’m the mother of 5 teenagers.  If anyone has the right to be afraid, … it’s me.  I’m not just afraid of what my OWN kids, may do… like you, I’m afraid of what the OTHER people might do.   http://ow.ly/1fq0y

My husband reminded of something I’ d said, a long time ago, …” it’s scary having 5 kids, because we have more of an opportunity, to loose them.”  Sounds a bit crazy, but …it can be a ‘number’s game.’

I asked my kids to record this last Friday night.  I felt I should wait to post it, until I fully aborbed it, and was clear headed with my message to you.

We, as a family have put this together for you and your families.  Don’t misunderstand, this was done out of pure selfishness.  I figured, if I could get my kids to read the scripts, that alone, might be a baby step in educating them about drinking and driving.

I hope what we have done, will help your cause and your families.

With much respect,

Robin Marshall

Have you Looked Outside?

March 7, 2010 – 11:41 am
Snow, snow, go away!

Snow, snow, go away!

I’m on the air, looking out over the Hudson River… it’s sparkling!  I love glitter…

Not a cloud in the sky, or a threat of snow… only the promises of warmth, sunshine and spring in the air! We’re two weeks away!  We made it through!

This is the first winter, that I didn’t buy my kids BOOTS!  Every time it would snow, I’d say to myself… “Ugh! I KNEW I should have gotten them boots!”  It became like a game to me, thinking, “no need for boots NOW?  It’ll NEVER snow like THAT again!” Then it would snow- AGAIN and AGAIN.

My youngest came to me last night and said, “Mom? Do you think we should get boots?”

Needless to say, she’s got my sense of humor!

Enjoy this beautiful ’spring like day’ NY!  It’s so FRESH

This Book about YOU, is ‘OUTTA’ CONTOL’!

March 5, 2010 – 11:50 am
This book is all about YOU, and YOU, and YOU!

This book is all about YOU, and YOU, and YOU!

This has turned into QUITE the project- and I’m LOVING every minute of it! I’m privy to all the stories! I get to be the “board lord!” We’ve got some ‘heavy hitters’ on board- but each of us, individually has made a MARK in our industry, which makes us ALL ‘HEAVY HITTERS’.

I’m having my son illustrate this. He will offer a graphic design, to match your story. OR?? He has to clean his room every day… I’m sure he’ll choose YOUR STORY.  I’ve got lots of you completed, but I’m still missing certain things, like your first gig, and where you are today… The horror stories are what’s gonna’ blast this baby outta’ the park! LOL!  We aslo still need your friends, hell… I still have to get my DAD’S story!

Please come forward with three things:

1. Your first radio gig

2. Your worst radio nightmare!

3. Where you are today.

Remember- Iwant to give a portion of this to the Make a Wish Foundation. It’s VERY important to me to do this.

Hi! It’s Robin, and I’d like to invite you to post your ‘cooler kids’ as well!

This 3 year old lab, rules the roost!  He does NOT like car rides, will not go near the water, Loves kids, and LOVES listening to FRESH 102.7!  Just your ‘typical black lab.’

Feel free to share your photos as well.  And, no… I’m not limiting you to dogs… or animals that listen to FRESH 102.7! LOL!

I’m writing a Book, and it’s all about YOU!

March 1, 2010 – 2:48 pm

If you are in Radio, send me your very first on the air radio gig experience to Robin.MarshallsOffice@gmail.com!  Calls and all!  I’d also like your WORST radio gig experience, with calls.  That moment that has given us all nightmares!  Please include where you are today, whether you’re in radio or not.

We all need to share! What great fun to read each others’ blessings and disasters! I started this group page on FB called “Disc Jockey’s Nightmare,” and have had such great response from it, that I decided to follow through on this.  If you know me at all, you know I’m the, “FOLLOW THROUGH GIRL.”  This will get published.

I’m just completing my first book, called       ”25 years on the air in NYC… and nobody knows my Name!”  (Thank you Scott Shannon- an ‘insider’)

I’m just working out what I CAN say… and what I CAN’T!  I think it’s called ‘editing.’ :-)

I’m about to be free to lay this second book out.  Whatever you write, will go to press. Be mindful of that, but ‘let it roll’!  I look so forward to hearing your stories, as will everyone else!

Thanks-

You did WHAT?

What was your worst radio nightmare?

I HATE SHOPPING!

February 27, 2010 – 5:12 pm
Blah!

I really hate shopping!

I took three of my girls shopping. My 16 year old is standing by the dressing room wearing a shirt she wants me to see.  It’s a tight fitting shirt, and she still has on her baggy sweatpants. I tell her, go over there, (to the left) pull down the pants, so I can see how the shirt really will look!  She steps to the left, pulls down her pants and out walks a Man from the Men’s Dressing room! She stands there and without missing a beat, with her pants down around her ankles, she says, “uhh… and that would be the Mens dressing room you sent me to?”

I’m telling you I almost peed in my pants! I was laughing so hard, I was doubled over.  BIG SIGN above Both our heads that reads, ” MENS DRESSING ROOM.” ‘Apples surely don’t fall far’… Hahahah!

Next event:  I’m in one dressing room, my 13 year old is in another.  She knocks on my door to show me the pants she’s tried on.  I open my door, and there we are wearing the same  damn pants!  Another ‘apple from the same tree…’

The last kid aged 12, brings $3.00 with her to go shopping, AND she was aggravated when she didn’t get CHANGE back!

These are the same girls, who I dropped off at Mandys, and when I went to pick them up later, they were all posing as mannequins in the front window!  What A TREAT to be the Mom!   ;-)

American Idol CUTS, ‘come ON, America?

February 26, 2010 – 1:10 pm

You have GOT to be kidding me.  Tim Urban Stayed??  Tyler Grady gone??  The whole point of his ’staying power’ was that he stay in that role!  The judges did him a disservice by knocking that.  America was too gullible and listened.   Jermaine Sellers?  Can’t wait to see what ‘attitudinal things’ come out of his mouth as we move forward.  He STILL rolls his eyes, (which is something every mom can NOT become immune to).

Love the fact that America agreed with me, and kept Haeley Vaughn on board.  Watch and see… I bet she goes far!  Lucy Brown? She didn’t sing ONE NOTE in tune.  Maybe America likes her eyes?

I loved seeing Allison Iraheta perform though! She’s adorable, and has that great rasp to her voice.  Kris Allen also did us proud, especially with his involvment with ‘America gives back.’  I was so thrilled that America got it right last year with him.  My thoughts last year, which of course I made public, (to know me is to love me,) but I kept saying to friends, and Facebook people, “would you seriously want Adam Lambert to be an idol that your children look up to?”  Not meaning that he’s not a great talent, but his bold, and at times outrageousness, makes me nervous.  I wouldn’t have wanted MY kids, emulating him. Kris- YES! David Archuleta? YES.

"Yer OUT!"

Who went home, and WHY?

Let’s see if America gets over their apparent ’shell-shock- next week, and begins to think before they vote!

My Picks for American Idol Guys Last Night!

February 25, 2010 – 10:08 am
The GUYS!

what did YOU think??

Hi! Once again,  just my opinion of last night’s American Idol, showing of the top 12 guys.

I almost fell asleep through the first hour and forty minutes!  The guys were not up to par- but HOLY MOLEY did I wake up when Casey James took the stage! OMG. THAT is our WINNER!  I truley believe that.  He’s got it all, ahem…cough, cough,… Literally! Great voice, great presence, great dimples, (sorry, off track) great smile, great interpretation, clean, contemporary, what else could America want?  I know I’D go for him??  Wouldn’t YOU? Wouldn’t you want him to sing to you ever night?  Let’s be real, here.

The other guy that I feel will go the distance is Andrew Garcia.  I was waiting for him actually, more than Casey.  A bit let down, but he can still ‘bring it!’

Again, I have no social life on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  I go through the day waiting for American Idol! LOL!  And then there’s TONIGHT! The CUTS!

The truth is, it’s one of two shows, that allows my family to get together, and watch something that we all enjoy.  Those moments as kids get older are far and few between.  Just love it!

My Take on American Idol Girls!

February 24, 2010 – 1:40 pm
The GIRLS!

Who did YOU like?

I know, I know… most won’t admit that they love the show… but I DO!!!  Having been a former singer, traveling with bands, writing recording, it gives me an appreciation of raw talent when I get the chance to see it!  Also gives me the ‘goosebumps’ when I realize the opportunity that is given to these kids.  Just love it!

My thoughts from last night’s show are:

Katelyn sang beautifully but was way too safe for what the show is calling for.

Crystal is so ‘earthy, real and just downright Fantastic!’  Her cause to win, is endearing as well, saying she’s doing it to give her son a better life.

Siobhan, strong singer, loved the fact that she asked, “What does it mean to be called a ‘dark horse?’ Hahah!  Innocence is so refreshing!

Lilly, just a dream with originality.  Exactly what the show is looking for.

The biggest shock for me, was the judges negative reactions to Haely Vaughn.  When she finished singing her version of  the much played out, “I wanna Hold your Hand,” I turned to my husband and said, “THAT could be released as a single tomorrow.”  It had everything America looks for- originality, sincerity, creative, great voice, innocence,  a great look… and the girl is 16 years old!  What better American Idol could there be for our daughters???

Considering I made my living from singing and writing for almost 20 years, prior to radio, I know chops when I hear chops. In MY opinion- the judges were WRONG.  She and Lilly and Crystal stole the show.

Can’t wait for tonight!!!
